Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society
The Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society, established in 1976, preserves the history and heritage of Beaverton and the former townships of Thorah and Eldon. Its volunteer-managed Beaver River Museum sits on the edge of Mill Gate Park on Simcoe Street in Beaverton, overlooking the Beaver River. The museum complex includes four historic buildings — an 1850s log cabin, a turn-of-the-century brick house and a mid-19th-century stone jail among them — housing more than 10,000 artifacts and archives. The society runs programs for all ages, hosts special events and maintains a local history archive. Museum building hours: May 18 to June 30 and September, weekends only 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; July and August, Thursday to Monday 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mail: P.O. Box 314, Beaverton, ON L0K 1A0.
